Re: [PyrNet-L] Pyrs easy to train???? NOT!!
Your welcome.
Perhaps it is just a difference of the terminology of the word "trained" and
how one perceives trained. My dogs are not trained for show nor simple
voice commands. I talk and ask, much the same as I do with my children and
it works for me. Guess mine are more family members and are treated as
such. Furthermore, the intelligence of a Pyr seems to enable him/her to
come by many things naturally.
My 20 y/o daughter would probably agree with others stating that Pyrs are
difficult and stubborn...but she isn't as nice as I am to them. Although, I
had to laugh over the statement regarding the dog penciling in next tuesday
on her daily planner...that is sometimes typical of a highly intelligent dog
that does have capabilities to think for oneself. If Kala is busy, I do
have to ask more than once for her to come to me...but I usually laugh.
Those things don't bother me, I didn't want a militant dog and my dogs are
far from strict obedience trained; but that's just me and what I want. I
like to leave some personality in the dog and not overcome their own
individualism.
Oh yes, I don't get on the floor with Kala...I normally pull my chair up
next to hers and we chat. :)
Just read your post regarding Tellington, I had horses for many years and
trained many. I do not know if Tellington is based on love, respect,
understanding, patience, etc...but if so, those methods seem to work much
better with horses also. Although, such slow methods (for horses) take many
years but the outcome is well worth it.
Unfortunately, I have seen horses trained quickly via aggressive and/or
cruel means and it truly did ruin them and many times such damage was
unreversible.
But these are only my opinions of which maybe right or maybe wrong; but are
nonetheless my choice.
For what it's worth,
Danita
