[pbmserv-dev] Stymie enhancments
I would like to see some enhancements made to Stymie. Cameron did the
initial programming, so he would probably have the easiest time modifying
it, but if Cameron is busy with his dozens of other games, I hope someone
else can pick up the ball.
As an incentive to whomever does the programming, for each of these
enhancements which are made to my satisfaction, I will give $20 to Richard.
1) Swap
Add a swap rule. I had hoped that the first move being single and the
later ones double would make the game pretty balanced, but there is an
obvious first player advantage.
2) Better display
We discussed this before, and Richard suggested a format that looked really
good. I no longer have a copy of that, because a miscreant stole my
computer, but Richard or Cameron should have a copy.
3) When a player has a triple move option, say so
Rather than "It is player's turn" say "It is player's turn for a triple
move", when appropriate.
4) Fix the error messages
When a move is invalid, the current error message is vague and
misleading. If I try to move A1,B4 the message should say "A1 is not
adjacent to B4". If I try to move A1,B3 the message should say "There is
no space at B3". If I try to move A1,B2,C3 and I don't have a triple move
coming, I should get an error message saying I don't get a triple move. If
multiple things are wrong with a move it is okay to catch just one.
5) Elapsed time
Add elapsed time messages at the bottom, such as we get in Quoridor and
other games.
6) Improve the description of triple move
When I described the game to Cameron, I was having trouble turning the
concepts in my head into English words. The triple move B2,C1,E1 is not
valid, because E1 is not adjacent to B2. Cameron implemented this
correctly, but there is a slight ambiguity to the written rules. I guess
the last half of the sentence should be "an empty square and two empty
octagons adjacent to the square."
7) Add copyright on the game board
At the bottom of the game board add the words "Stymie (C) 2003 Randall
Bart. Used With Permission."
So, who wants to do a little work to get me to donate $140 to Gamerz.net?
Oh Richard, the PayPal link on your page is seriously broken. That format
hasn't worked since 2002. This link does what you
want:
