Re: [life] What is life?

Life is a "simulation" (automata?) originally proposed by Conway.

you start with a 2 dimensional board. You place "cells" on the board,
and then "start" it. The board changes from generation to generation
according to the following rules...

any cell with less than 2 neighbors, dies. (starvation)
any cell with more than 3 neighbors dies (over population)

An empty cell with exactly 3 neighbors has a "birth"

Generation 0
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .

Generation 1
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .
    . . . . . . .

Generation 2
    . . . . . . .
    . . . X . . .
    . . x . x . .
    . X . . . X .
    . . x . x . .
    . . . X . . .
    . . . . . . .

Generation 3
    . . . . . . .
    . . . x . . .
    . x X . X x .
    . . . x . . .
    . . . . . . .

Generation 4
    . . . . . . .
    . X . . . X .
    . x . . . x .
    . X . . . X .
    . . . . . . .

It gets extended to 2 player with multiple cell types (one for each
player). The rules are the same. But the color of the new cell for
birth is based on the majority of the neighboring colors.

THe board starts "random"

then player 1 adds a cell of their color, and deletes a cell of the
opponents.

Generation

player 2 adds a cell then deletes a cell

Generation

etc.

To balance it perhaps we need to change the first players move to
either add or delete, but not both...
