That's assuming that the MDC of the ship is equal to the sum of the MDCs of
every component--that is, that you'd have to destroy every scrap of armor on the
ship to destroy it--which is inaccurate. To use a human as an example, you don't
have to completely vaporize the body to kill a man, you just have to put a
bullet through a vital organ.
