[HOE] The Librarian's Almanac for August 5th
Today's issue brought to you by Master Archivist M. Steflik
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA - Ortho "Stone Cold" Glick, Banshee Veteran and
Syker for Hire has posted a wanted notice for the return of some missing
property. The items in question are a military issue palmcorder (serial
#146351) and a small transport case containing nine full data slugs. A
negotiable reward of trade goods or services rendered is offered for
the return of the items, if the authenticity of the palmcorder and the
contents of the slugs can be verified. Inquiries can be made care of
Beano Brown, proprietor of the Busted Nut Bar and Grill in the nearby
trading settlement of Dango.
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA - Relaible sources relay that squatters, miners
and would-be treasure hunters from the nearby Susperstition Mountains
have been leaving the area in droves. None of the deserters can site a
tangible reason for the departure other than an overwhelming sense of
developing "wrongness" in the wilds of the mountain range. Walter
"Wiley" Benton, a treasure hunter who has called the mountain range his
home since well before the war is one of the most recent individuals to
pull up stakes and leave. "I can't tell you how it breaks me heart to
just up and leave my claim," Benton remarked. "It's just that...well...I
just can't be there any more. It's like the rocks, trees,
animals...everything...are, like, changing...in ways I can't quite put
my finger on up there. I'll admit some folks think the mountains have
always been creepy, given their history and all...but this is something
else. What's happening up there now...I just don't know. It just feels
wrong. Whatever it is, Lost Dutchman Mine or no...I don't think I can
ever go back into the Superstitions again."
