Amusingly, a somewhat similar issue is currently being dealt with in real life.

As for your question, hell if I know. If you wanted to be extra-picky, Muslims
going to Banshee could all be issued gizmos that pointed the approximate
direction to Earth at all times. I think "up" is the most aesthetically pleasing
answer, though.
