My friends and I have the West End Games version of Star Wars, and in that 
the light saber stars of mean and only gets meaner as time goes on :-)

If you have the West End Games version, or can find it somewhere going 
cheap, I'd say pick that up and use that. We never really had any problems 
with it. I think this is another case of trying to make something generic 
(and crap when it comes to HP in my opinion) fit something that isn't 
generic. You end up having the rules re-written anyway. Oh and if you can, 
try and find an adventure called Sisar Run (I think thats the one) written 
in part by none other than our very own Shane :-) It will be interesting to 
play that one through.
