The Unity does require quite a few adventure beforehand, but more, I 
think, in the way of "if you're not experienced, you're gonna be dead" 
(well, more so :-), in fact I think shane even states this in the book.
Personally, I'd say that the Posse should have run through at least the 
Boise Horror and preferably Urban Renewal and the adventure in City 'O 
Sin, party because if they survive all of those, then they're probably 
able to take on The Unity, but also because it gives them the in-game 
reason to be part of the whole unity adventure in the first place.
I'd doubt that newly created charecters could make it through the 
"experience", and I think it would also mean more to a party that knows 
about the protagonists....
