Just as a point of reference, who remembers the Deadlands Dispatches in the backs of some sourcebooks?  At first, they contained miscellaneous information for both game lines, and the fans flipped out.  It was mostly Weird West players that didn't want any Hell on Earth stuff (since a lot of Weird West stuff could be adapted for HoE).  Now, the Dispatches were like four pages long and people were foaming at the mouth, so the format was changed so that each Dispatch only applied to the line it was published in.
Now, we're talking about a whole book.  The original Epitaphs drew similar criticism; one group of players didn't want to buy stuff for a different game.
My question is: why now does combining the lines seem like a good idea, when it's already failed twice?
