What OS are you using? If it's Windows, check your msconfig for startup. I
removed more than a dozen applications from startup on my Windows box and went
from 67% memory free immediately after startup to 94% [which drops quickly to
91% because most of the time I start up AIM]. I only have 128 MB RAM, though
["only" is a relative term; it's average for a student here to have 128MB. But
in my major, it's a serious low-point: some kids in my classes have a full GB!]
