I also think the Anouks are us, all the clues are there.  I fairness, my wife 
was the one to catch it.  The first time my wife read the sykers handbook, 
(she plays a syker), she said, "The Anouks are us".  My first reaction was:  
that's nuts.  But she's pretty smart, (except for the monumental lack of 
judgement when she agreed to marry me,) so I reread the parts and, I thought, 
um...yeah, she's right.  I also might mention she figured out Simon was the 
Boise Horror as soon as she read the Templars book as well.   Made it kind of 
rough to play the adventure since she loudly professed her view that Simon 
was the Horror.
