[HOE] Good, Evil, and pawnsmanship
Deadlands is as much about American self-reliance than it is about good and
evil.
Why does Evil get all this help in the form of demons, magic powers, unholy
terrors, Horsemanic blessings, etc? It get's this help because it NEEDS it.
Good is when ordinary 'good people' take up and fight for it with the
determination and grit of a 1776 militiaman fighting for freedom. Aint
nothing that can stand very long against that. If you're going to bring
'metaplot' into DL, there it is. People are pawns of evil. Good people
aren't pawns at all. That's DL.
Angels don't exist, Demons do. John Wayne don't need no angels (Femmy
longhaired wusses they are!). The only way good guys get pansy 'Goodguy'
powers, is when those powers are the aid from other good guys (Templars and
templar saints). All other powers are good/evil non-specific. Except for
the general Black magic, etc, which are bad guy only.
Truth, Justice, The American way, with stick-tuitiveness, grit, and guts.
these are what the good guys got. This is why Europe, Asia, Australia, and
Africa have fallen completely under the realm of Evil and yet the USA burns
strong and bright. These ideas are not celebrated by HoE Marshalls as much
as they should be.
If you wanna make good and evil parallel, with angels AND demons, and
both of them fighting for some Human 'blessing', you're in the Wrong game.
Play "The End". Leave HoE to us who realize that all you need is two big
American fists, a big American heart, and all the mutants in the world can't
stop you. Accountants CAN be heads of templar orders. Blackjack dealers CAN
be heroes. Evil may be more powerful than ever, but that means it'll only
make a louder sound when you thump it.
John Wayne's not dead, he's frozen! And when they thaw out The Duke,
he's gonna be pissed! And I'm taking him, and Lee Marvin, and John
Cassavetes, and a case of Malt Liquor and we're going down to
Mexico...........
Except in a good way
