I applaud you writing detailed character background without taking
Veteran of the WW...I have to require a detailed background from my
players to prove to me WHY they deserve to have Veteran. Most take it
not to reflect being around long and having lived through a lot - rather
they take it just for the points (the draw on the UBSOP table, as you
colorfully refer to it, often doesn't result in a balancing penalty for
Veteran). Excellent point regarding age - I agree. Keeping this in
mind, I'd say that the specialty groupings from the Soldier Background
could be used as an excellent "suggestion" tool if nothing else - A
guide by which players creating younger soldiers could get an idea of
where to put some of their points to fit with their desired concept.
