Another option is a Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter
M. Miller. The book starts with a nuclear war and
already has HOE elements built into it. Muties, the
abbey is like the library without electronics or a
hidden agenda. The catholic church in the book could
easily become the Templars. (The original version
being a catholic crusade) Also, you could carry your
characters through it with the plot. Then send them to
lc. As an added plus, the book is filled with latin.
Latin always sounds really mystical to a posse. (The
mystic inscription reads: tu est fatuus. And yes,
I,know it's not conjugated.) Texharcana could be Salt
Lake, or Denver.... Who knows?
