Re: [HOE] Urban Renewal cover [Shane, Hopler, et al]
| WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! I was about to complain about
the
| LACK of hot, scantily-clad girls in Deadlands books. All throughout
| adventure games, going WAY back to D & D, and even the old
Warhammer
series
| from Games Workshop, scantily clad hot females, whether they were
powerful
| Sorceresses or damsels in distress, have been a STAPLE of fantasy
role-play,
| and fantasy in general.
guess what...Deadlands is not FRP. It is Western, Horror, and
Post-Apocalyptic (in the case of HoE) but not Fantasy. Dwarves are
also a staple of Fantasy, but I don't expect to see Dwarves of the
Radioactive Mountains anytime soon.
| (Just pick up a copy of X-Men, hello?)
I'm sorry, but "they did it in X-Men, so it must be OK!" just
doesn't cut
it.
I tend to agree. Heck, I collected comics...awhile back...and the
new "busty chixx" art does not really suit me either.
and I don't think that young lady could have been comfortable wearing
just what she was, but that is idle speculation.
I plan to use the pic for when my Posse goes into the building
"remember, bring supplies, and don't forget important things like
clothing"
| Any girl
| that I know cool and laid back enough to play Deadlands with a bunch
of
guys
| (and we have a few in our posse) wouldn't mind this cover, because
it
| enhances the fantasy of the role you're playing.
Y'know, we've got a couple in one of my groups as well, and I can say
with
some degree of certainty that they probably wouldn't "mind"
this cover
either. But I guarantee the cover wouldn't be a draw for
them.
In sum total, my groups have 6 different woman. It is hard for me
to say who would like what. I know one for sure would be put off
but not up in arms about it. I don't think any of them would say,
"hey, that's really neat" tho I suppose I could be wrong.
| And yes, it's just as much
| fun for female role-players to say, "Yeah, I'm the hot female
Templar" as
it
| is for guys to say, "I'm the handsome, stud Templar with all the
chicks."
Perhaps this is so. But y'know something? That ain't got nothing to
do
with the cover to Urban Renewal. Look at it, and you'll see what I
mean.
Besides, we most of us don't need visual aids.
In Deadlands at least, people don't seem to play that out as much.
It happens, but not as much as in some of my White Wolf games.
| If you can't take the heat, stay the Hell
out of the kitchen.
Whether I can take the heat or not isn't really the issue. Quite
frankly,
my opinion has been that PEG has always put a fair amount of class
into
their products, and that seems to be slipping lately (in this regard,
at
least). I don't see any reason that it should slip; there is no
compelling
reason to put naked women on the covers of game books.
Period.
|As far as I'm
| concerned, if I'm going to pay like $25 for an adventure,
whatever
| reasonably tasteful scantily-clad females are in there is just
gravy.
This is rather my point. It is not at *all* tasteful.
I agree. PEG has typically been Classy, and not as much of trend
follower as some, including the aforementioned White Wolf.
I will concede that such art is more appropriate to HoE then WW.
That is not, however, an open invitation to put such art of HoE
covers.
| You
| can call me a chauvanist, but I think most of the guys who roleplay
are
all
| thinking the same thing here.
Quite possibly. And you know something? Thanks to that, it's going
to
remain mostly guys that role-play.
I'm not thinking the same thing. I thought it was off.
That's all,
