That was Ryan Dancey. Don't worry about it, he picked up an extra
helping of enthusiasm somewhere and is prone to overstating things
sometimes. He's been well-flamed for such comments in other forums. No
need to repeat it here, really. There's an interview on rpgplanet with
Dancey where he goes into more detail on his theories:

(In my view, the grand all-encompassing game system Dancey envisions is
almost identical to GURPS, or will one day evolve into GURPS, only you
roll a d20 instead of 3d6. Thus, as you can imagine, it will no doubt
crush and destroy all other RPG systems... just like GURPS has!)

(Note, that was sarcasm.)

WotC is not evil, and they have not adopted a cutthroat attitude. The
Skaff Effect goes both ways.
