Re: [HOE] Need a quick answer - spoilers for my posse
OK. Something many probably get wrong... see bottom, so that
spoiler space will be intact... oh yeah, if someone in my group
is reading this, please don't. Because of the example, which
might come up in _our_ game.

Remember that manitou cause _fear_, not _death_. A scared posse
is a lot more useful than a heroicly dead one, at least to the
manitou (and generally to the marshal, for that matter).
I have a harrowed in my posse, Bubba. Here's what I'd do if I
were to take control by way of Manitou for a minute (one white
chip, IIRC):
I'd make the roll as normal, right before or during a combat. I'd
do it in sequence with another character's action card (and still
have them act on it, of course). I'd just have, say, someone
shoot him and resolve it normally. Them, I say 'roll spirit'.
Then I take him in the other room if the Manitou takes control.
I'd say, "Matthew (that's the player's name): at the end of this
combat, I want you to smack around whoever in the posse did the
least damage. Just hit him on your last action card and go from
there... no lethal damage, so clubbing. And at the end, Bubba has
no memory of having done that" So combat continues as normal
(they'd be fighting punks or something, not a major bad guy, so
the manitou isn't hurting his side in the process). It's just as
if it's still Bubba's good ol' bloodthirsty self.
Then, bad guys beat down, he says at the end "You know, Jimbo,
you didn't really hurt them. It coulda hurt me in the
process...-" (and then stop and smack him). He'd get beat down at
the end (hopefully not killed... if it looked like they'd kill
him, I'd give him a chance to throw them off)... and then they'd
ask for an explanation when he wakes up. Of course, he says, "I
don't remember doing that. Maybe it was Andrew you're thinking
of. You know, Brawny, Scrawny, same thing" (or something to that
effect).
But I like the keys idea better.
