Maimed limbs can be healed - maimed does not mean missing, it could also mean mangled, chewed on, or so hammered from multiple small wounds that it is no longer functional.
But I can't remember seeing a rule on it taking an extra wound to remove it.

The way we play, it depends on the amount of damage, and the source of the damage. I.e., if a sword just did 5 wounds, hey, it's been lopped off. If a bullet just did another 3, on top of a previous 2, then it just needs some healin'. If two bullets do 4 each, welcome to the lame hindrance! If you just walked on a landmine, hey, welcome to the nickname Hopalong!
