[HOE] Message from the forum...
Not sure what the ethics/rules are on this, but I really liked this idea and
thought I'd spread it around a bit and see what you all thought on this...
Taken from the "Thoughts about HOE weapons..." thread:
******************
The one thing I never liked about the PEG system for shooting (and really
the ONLY thing, all in all it's a great system) is the rules for multiple
shots.
Unless I'm way off, firing multiple shots gives you NO bonus to hit. All it
does is make it possible for REALLY skilled people to hit multiple times.
This makes no sense to me. Most automatic weapons are automatic not to hit
the target a bunch of times, but to increase the odds of hitting it AT LEAST
once.
Ask yourself this: if the world came to end and there was an apocolypse and
all that which would you rather have: a single shot rifle or one that could
go burst/full-auto if you want it to?
Now ask yourself why? So you can hit people with more bullets or have a
better chance of hitting at all? At least for me it would be the latter.
At any rate, my group has changed the auto-fire rules, adopting a system
stolen from Brave New World.
The only difference is that for each shot after the first that you fire you
get one extra die to your shootin' skill.
The effect is that really skilled gunslingers get a little edge out of a
burst (taking their 5d12 to a 7d12 for a 3-round burst is nice, but not
gaming stopping).
But scrub shooters get a big bonus (taking a 1d8 shooting to a 3d8 isn't
going to up the odds of multiple hits much, but it will up the odds of
hitting AT ALL a lot).
Everything else is the same, raises to hit with extra bullets, penalties for
mutliple bursts, etc...
All-in-all this has worked well for us and seems to make a lot more sense
from a real-world stand point. It also isn't a major pain in the rules or
time dept.

Actually, the system or house rule proposed sounds pretty good. It would
encourage people to shoot more (read waste ammo) and only give them a bit of
an extra edge to hit. I would modify it to state for each burst in one
action above the first, just to be clear. That way they get a +1 die and a
-2 to their shot for every burst after the first.
Anyway, it looks like a reasonably good idea, comments?
