Just want  to drive that last point home before a mis-understanding leads to 
flaming.   This 'bothering with quirky details',

    You don't do this every time. But once or twice or so, just to customize 
the campaign to the characters.  It's spice, and in being spice, use it 
judiciously, but    it's a boring chef who doesn't use it at all.
