Sorry, I mistyped. She didn't convert it to a strain based system, since
witches don't worry about strain. She did however sanitize it I suppose
would be the proper term.
Annabelle Lee is the mother of HoE witchcraft. She converted her
great-great-great grandmother's magic into the book "how to serve your man."
The conversion takes place in that Mina's magic was black magic from
deadlands the weird west. Mina's power came from the reckoners liking her
style, and if she messed up the reckoners would certainly make her regret it.
HoE witches however only have to worry about wasting their spell materials,
and apparently don't draw power from the reckoners. Instead it would seem to
be a knowledge based system, if you do the ritual right it works, if not then
not. The problem with that in my mind is that would not preclude the use of
strain, since even with knowledge you need energy as well.
Perhaps annabelle lee simply found a more neutral patronage for her art?
There are already the technospirits, the loas, the nature spirits, and the
manitou (not that those would be an improvement).

That's probably were I got the idea that there was a book, I look forward
to it.
