Re: [HoE] Old Movie Question
Because my character used to be an actor, these questions have all
come up before in our game. We decided that, to keep movies from being
very different because of Agency or Ranger influence, Movie Town was a
neutral territory like Lost Angels was. This would give them independence
to put whatever content they wanted into the movies. But for heavy
distribution they would have to follow certain guide lines if the film
had supernetural elements:
1. The good guys MUST win.
2. A detailed and correct account of a creature's powers and weaknesses
must be included in the film.
3. If the characters must build a special weapon to defeat a creature, a
detailed "montage" type sequence must be shown to show how its done.
4. One of the surviving characters must be shown talking to the
terrified locals when the creature is taken care of. (Tale tellin'
anyone?)
Of course there would have been independant, underground horror movies
made and these may have even been used by cults or fear mongers to spread
fear and distrust in the government agencies that would monitor that sort
of thing. There might have even been an OMPAA (Occult Motion Picture
Association of the Americas) that would check the "realism" of horror
movies and decide how much distribution they would allow.
All of these things could have been hidden behind things like import
tariffs and border inspections. If a film didn't pass the OMPAA check, it
was delayed untill the Production Company owners (who were "in the know"
or being blackmailed) agreed to make the needed changes.
Hope this helps.
