Depends. The maps I get from Chessex don't like dry-erase markers. In fact,
the ink won't come off of them. A buddy of mine forever has an island cave
drawn on a map from the first time he opened his mat, and just drew on it to
do it.

Draw on a corner, let it dry and try to remove the ink.
