[HoE] Re: "Food of the Gods" - An Adventure Background (Ideas, anyone?)
Here are a few of the seed ideas I have. Any input, expansions to the ideas,
etc, are greatly appreciated. I can write good stories on my own, but with
the feedback of you guys, I can vary my style and ideas so much, my posse'll
never know what to expect (I have to admit, after awhile, all my ideas tend
to stem back to an earlier one...the posse eventually can learn to interpret
certain events....you know). I figure some ideas from unfamiliar Marshals
out there might give 'em a good kick in the pants. So here goes:
"Food of the Gods" - Some survivor towns thrive on sport, some on Ghost
Rock. Still others drill the ground for fossil fuels. Well, under the
settlement known as New Wells, they've discovered something better than oil.
At first, the locals didn't know if it was some new kind of horror - while
planting their crops for the season, a strange, white fluid began to bubble
from within the earth. The survivors were afraid it was dangerous to them,
and stayed far away, figuring those fields were bad. Imagine their surprise
when they scouted the field a short two weeks later to find their bumper crop
was abnormally large! After feeding them to some local animals (to insure
they weren't tainted), the town discovered the vegetables were safe. Soon,
New Wells' famous super-veggies were being sent to other settlements via
caravans and even the Convoy! They town kept their gardening tips to
themselves, however.
Until a wandering tribe of muties stumbled on the field, and saw the
fluid in action. A few stopped to take a drink, mistaking the pool for
irradiated water. Two days later, the mutants who had drank awoke to find
themselves twice their normal size. Surprised, the muties hurried faster
towards their destination: Las Vegas, and Silas' Rasmussen's waiting arms.
When they arrived, they told Rasmussen of New Wells, and the strange
enlarging water they had found.
An idea formed in Silas' warped mind. His Grundies and Trogs were tough
now - what if he could enlarge them further? A band of 20-foot Grundies and
a 30-foot Doomsayer could easily take Virginia City. Hell, he could bring
Carson City, the city that had forced his retreat, to it knees in a matter of
hours.
Silas began a sermon to his loyal Cultists. He told them that the Glow
had taken form in the town of New Wells. He began to mount plans for a
massive offensive, which would take the town in the name of the Cult of Doom.
From there, Silas would discover this pool's secret, and bend it to his own
ends.
That's the basic background. I see the posse wandering into this settlement
just a day or two before a mutant offensive launches. Of course, no one will
know why, at first...the posse will have to pry the secret from the town's
lips (or go find the Food of the Gods themselves), and then determine how
best to defend the town from Silas' troops (of course, a blaze of glory is
NOT going to be the answer.)
Of course, I'll probably end the adventure with the posse having to destroy
the Food of the Gods, thereby protecting the town. Of course, the moral
predicament in this is that if the fluid is totally destroyed, the town will
no longer have anything to survive on, and nothing to trade to the Convoy for
supplies. (god, aren't I malicious?)

I'll send others out later, as I have time.
