If you mean the M-50 [IIRC], it's going to be impossible for the
character to fire unless he's a cyborg with a Samson system. The recoil
from a .50 Browning Machine-gun shell would literally snap a persons
wrist. It would also be difficult to hold and fire the gun, even without
the stock and barrel, because the .50 sniper rifles tend to be close to
five feet long. With the barrel cut down as far as it could go and no
stock, you're looking at a gun that would probably be about 1 1/2 to 2
feet long. You'd lose range, probably knocking it down to about half of
what it was. Giving it a shorter barrel also reduces the velocity of the
round, which reduces damage. If the character fired it as a pistol, I'd
require a Strength check at about [11] to simply hold on to the gun, and
an immediate Vigor [13] roll to see if it broke the characters wrist or
wrists if he had both hands on the gun.
Honestly, you're better off keeping it as a sniper rifle and getting the
range and full damage, as well as the use of a scope and laser sight.
I'd just go with a .44 if you want damage, or a .50 SA pistol, if you're
dead set on having a big handgun. Load it with Frangible rounds for
extra damage.
But, that's just my opinion, and I talk a lot....
