I agree with the idea that nuke should be a bit unpredictable. With the leaning
in Deadlands to more and more powerful and risk free characters its good to see
somethings that arent a sure thing. IMHO a Huckster in the Weird West was about
an even match for a gunslinger. Or at least felt that way. There was an unsure
edginess to the art that was alotta fun.
But anyone not taking a Arcane background in Hoe is at a vast disadvantage.
There is little to no danger to the characters using these powers either.
Honestly. How often is a Syker or Doomsayer gonna bust on 5 dice. And any of the
two is going to start with that many, as they should since its there thing. Since
no one one has to buy powers seperately you learn a new one and POOF you a pro.
I guess some would find it confusing to have different Powers they had to
buy seperately. I suppose these are the same people that couldnt figure out
those complicated Traits and Apptitudes things as well. :) With buying them
seperately the power level of the game could be increased a bit slower and to me
having an ability getting better slowly just makes more sense.
However if this was done the effect of a failure would have to be changed
a little because right now Doomies get the pointy end of the stick on the rare
bust. A full mutation. Could be good. Probably be bad. This makes it hard to
implement any means that gets them failures more often. Becuase it would end the
characters most likely and that isnt the idea.
The Sykers Brainburn isnt anywhere near as bad but its about as likely to
come up unless they use Fortitude or Overkill quite a bit.
Whew, Sorry about that but would like to know if any gamers that came up
from First Deadlands all the way to Hoe see the rules as getting more and more
powergaming friendly.
New to the list and I really HOPE this hasnt been done to death here. If so I am
reeealy Sorry. Really.
