[HoE] Why modern people stayed ignorant

OK I think you all on this line of topic have forgotten why the Four
Horseman created harrowed and other abominations in the first place.
To cause fear!
The books are very explicit that overt fear is short lived - that if the
real knowledge really did get out full force people would rally against it.
Well the reckoners sure wouldn't let this happen long before they've
managed to talk the world into a ghost rock holocaust.

In the "modern" times their efforts probably shifted towards raising
distrust and enmity between nations.
On the harrowed issue they probably stuck to have the Delta Force commandos
who died in the helo crash crawl out of the desert only to go disembowl the
hostages (Iranian hostage crisis) who thought these american men had
arriveed to rescue them....
Just because harrowed characters are the thing many players think is the be
all and end all of Reckoner coolness doesn't mean the Four Horsemen didn't
just stop using them for 50 years.
In wilderness lands (like the wild west) or in war (like Gettysburg or WW1)
these events could be terrifying yet still hard to _prove_ and therefore
useful.
Masses of dead people walking out of morgues is counter productive. Having
some random dude get up and walk out of the ER however could still stay
small scale - hell perhaps he goes on to write a book about his positive
life transformation after his near death experience - leading toward death
cults chasing meteors or doctors looking for the other side ( ala flatliners)
