Actually, it was late when I wrote that, what I meant to say was: "It works
out exactly, if one assumes a Frame Size 1 (pistol size) rather than the Frame
Size 2 listed."
Assuming that, which is not unreasonable (given that it's supposed to be
pistol sized, really), one gets:
3d8 damage, burst radius 1 yard (all around)
ammo size = 3 x 0.2 x 1.3 = 0.78
Okay, we'll refer to Ammo Size as A, because it gets used so much in Flash
Gordon calculations.
ROF is 1, with a Range Increment of 5, so the slot cost for the weapon proper
is:
(3 x A) + (2 x A x 2) = 5.46
(The reason for the extra x2 is because Bolt weapons have double slot cost for
range)
Okay, a powerpack takes up 1 slot per 15 GR capacity, so the 15-point
powerpack has a slot cost of 1.5...
1.5 + 5.46 = 6.96 slots (out of 7)
Which leaves one with 0.04 slots, which Pinnacle quite reasonably rounds down
to 0. So, for a change, my numbers match theirs, tho I have to assume they
made one small mistake...
Note that the above calculation indicates a Drain of 2.34 (3 x A, as per the
listing for Bolt Weapons) for the Plasma Pistol, which rounds up to the 3/shot
listed.
I also got the example gun on p.100 to work... But only if I round the Ammo
Size up to the nearest tenth, which I *didn't* do above. (In fact, if you
round the Ammo size up to the nearest tenth in the above calculation, it
doesn't work.)
I think, I this point, I understand generally how everything is supposed to be
calculated, though I'm going to have to talk it out with my Marshal. (And I'm
not even playing a Junker at the moment... My Junker is my backup
character...)
