[HoE] Junkman Cometh
Hey, all, I'm new to the list, and I had a question:
Anyone have any idea how the math in most of the new, improved Junker powers
works? Take, for example, the Ammo power.
Let's say you want to build ammo that does 5d8. Easy. 5 x 0.2 = 1.
Okay, taking that as a base, what if you want ammo that does 5d8, no
propellant (for a rail gun, say), with multiple projectiles?
No propellant reduces the ammo size by 50%, but multiple projectiles increases
the ammo size by 50%. Do you add all the multiplies before multiplying, or do
you just multiply everything?
i.e. there is a difference between
1 x .5 x 1.5 = 0.75 (multiplying is all out)
and
1 x (-0.5 + 1.5) = 1 (adding the percentiles first)
Which is intended? I think the former, but... The examples in the book aren't
helpful, as they aren't delineated. In fact, I've had no success designing the
same thing from scratch. Even the simplest calculations are no good -- for
example, the Drain for a bolt weapon is three times the ammo size (times the
drain mod for the Range Increment). Supposedly, the Drain for Marv's
bolt-throwing plasma weapon on p. 100 is 8, working back from that results in
an ammo size of 1.3333333333... which one can't get as an ammo size.
Especially starting from 4d8 with a 5 yard blast radius, which comes out as
0.2 x 4 x 1.4 = 1.12, which means a drain of 6.72, which, even rounded up,
comes out to 7, not 8...
The other stuff is worse, like trying to understand anything with the Commo
power...
