Go with the Barrett.  As for the 12mm minigun... I think the Russians are the
only ones that use 12.7mm ammo for their heavy MGs. The US/Nato uses the .50
caliber M2 (stats for the M2 Heavy Barrel are given in the adventure, I
believe)... also the same round used by the Barret, I think.  But anyway,
yeah, its a BIG furkin' bullet. As for being cruel, if the PCs try a frontal
assault, they deserve what they get.
