Re: [HoE] Milrats/MREs-Fact from Fiction
In a message dated 98-09-28 23:04:03 EDT, you write:

ie. the chocolate had turned white, flaky and tasted lousy >>
Actually, "Candy, pan-coated, chocolate disks" as the military calls M&Ms,
will show "Blooming" or whitening because the coconut oil migrates to the
surface of the coating. Believe it or not, this is not scored as a defect
during inspections. Might exhibit a soapy/rancid flavor, but this is supposed
to be unlikely due to the super-chocolate used (buI myself had some M&Ms like
this just last wek in the field). Se le guerre. However, the M&Ms are not
packaged in a tri-laminate pouch like the rest of the components, so if
anything will go bad first it's the items in a simple waxed paper bag.
