Interesting...or maybe something akin to the Goal cards from Fluxx or Illuminati.
That's one problem I'm having with trying to like this game...yeah, it's about trading cards, but I feel like I'm trading them at random, going for an unknown goal. Maybe that's the point, but it leaves me unsatisfied.
Perhaps each person can have a goal card? And maybe Goal cards can be traded?

What if offers and trades were done in rounds this way, similar to the way the pbem Avalon Hill Advanced Civilization game works:

Round 1a: Everybody submits offers of cards to be traded. All the offers are queued up, until everybody has submitted.
Round 1b: All the offers are displayed. Everybody looks over the list of offers and responds with their trade (or to choose to not trade). These responses would be queued up until all have responded.
Round 1c: Everybody gets the response to the offers, and chooses which response to accept (or to reject them all)

The player order in which the trades get accepted would be randomized each round. Repeat until everybody has submitted.

It would make for a longer game, but it would eliminate the problems from the non-present people.
