RE: [DL] Fanning, Single and Double action pistols.
Title: RE: [DL] Fanning, Single and Double action
pistols.
Historically speaking the
double action revolvers were notoriously
unreliable and much harder to find. if your players want them so bad
make them work to find them. They would not be found at every shop
like a good ol' SAA. I find this easier than tinker' with the rules to
much, although you could always require a reliability check as if were
a mad science gizmo historically speaking say around 15 or as low as a
10. Having had a couple period double action revolvers come
through my shop and having a local gunsmith that specializes in them
that reliability would be about accurate. Also the Blue Book of Gun
Values also comments on their unreliability. Being a cowboy action
shooter also I think the SAA looks much better and feels better in the
hand. Also the Colt Peacemaker (aka Single Action Army) was never a
double action so I would cross that off the list. That reduces the
damage on all but one revolver which is a cap and ball i.e. harder to
reload. Which ever way you go the auto fire rules suggested is
also not bad I just like to be more period correct being a reenactor
and avid cowboy action shooter.
