Cool, I live here.

The Platte River is going to be 1 to 3 miles wide.  Depth will range from over 10 feet in the spring to drying up durring dry years in the summer.
The land along the Platte is going to be that sterotypical flat cropland, but grassland at this time.
The eastern 1/5 of the state would be rolling hills, mainly grassland, but some trees, especially along water.
The Panhandle is dominated by soft stone bluffs, buttes, and scrub pines. Chimney Rock was a major landmark on the Oregon Trail, and could make an interesting plot point.
The area between and north of the Platte is the Nebraska Sandhills.  The Sandhills are giant sanddunes which can be over 600 feet high.  These dune have a light grass covering.  Underneath the sand is VERY loose.  The area has numerous box canyons inwhich one can (and has) get lost.  The streams of this area are all spring fed.  The water is very cold and quicksand along the streams is very common.  At this time the sandhills are completly uninhabited.  People and animals would go in and never be seen again.  It was widely believed that the Sandhills were haunted.  Who knows, in this timeline, maybe they are?
