Re: [DL] Am I just lucky or something?
My apologies, I misinterpreted the original question.
Based on my own experences back when I worked for the store in question (and
having dealt first hand with the distributor in question), the sad truth is
it's more of a sideline for them. Their resident "gaming guru", as the
individual was referred to, really didn't know a lot about the products or
the industry, which is unfortunate.
It's just a shame for me to see it in a place I put so much work into over
the years. I can believe they told the manager of the store Deadlands was a
"dead system", though... back when 3rd edition D&D came out they tried to
tell me that the Gazeteer was a "brand new setting designed just for 3rd
ed.). When I mentioned the item in question was actually Greyhawk, I was
told that I had no idea what I was talking about. It was a sad day in my
mind, seeing as how it proved to me the "gaming guru" had never even held a
copy of the item in hand, since "Greyhawk" was smack in the middle of the
front cover.
I do understand that products like YuGiOh are popular and am happy to see
them bring game stores added revenue... my disgruntlement comes from seeing
the needs of long time customers neglected to the point where they move to
other stores because of it. The stock used to be well rounded, but now if
it's not D20 or the latest in CCGs (which, I gather, IS YuGiOh), they don't
have it and either can't or won't get it for you.
The flip side is the other gaming store available to me, in which the
manager and staff ask things like "So, how is your Deadlands game going?"
and "Anything you can't find? We'd be happy to order it and call you when
it arrives." They manage to provide that kind of product selection and
service, and they still allow space for things like D20 product and
YuGiOh...
It's disappointing, but let's be honest... which place would most gamers go
to shop?

I ask because I've been trying to get Epitaph 4 though a local game store
and was told by that owner that it just hasn't come in from their distro.
If there is a distributor out there who is blocking Pinnacle products then
Shane ought to know about it, so he can inquire as to what's up.
Don't knock it. YuGiOh is paying the rent for a lot of retailers right now
- if this guy can get and keep a steady supply of it coming in, then I can
see why he'd stay loyal.

all watching you fall, I think a funny gag would be to pretend you were
swimming.
