I know it's not a direct correlary - Sci-Fi channel made a concious decision
to pursue those two ends - they wanted more control over production of all
current series they aired, and they wanted to cut budget costs. The example
one exec pointed at was one of their most popular/successful shows, Sliders,
which was special effects low, so that the cost was much lower than
Farscape. I find that so unfortunate, but understandable - it's part of
business.

However, the small bit of info that I heard, and have yet to confirm, is
that Sci-Fi, once they decided they weren't interested in buying/airing
Farscape any more, refused to release them from contract to find another
outlet, either. From what I heard from a friend who attended a buyers
convention (he works for a small cable outlet out west), both Showtime and
one of the "common" stations (TNN, USA, etc) expressed interest in picking
up the series, but Sci-Fi held the broadcast rights of refusal, and didn't
let it go. Anyone have more info on that?

From what I've been able to find, Sci-Fi made a concious decision to be more
profitable; that's certainly their right - I just don't have to watch the
changes. Take my watching elsewhere. If the latter is true, then I think
they're poor players as well.

*shrug* For what it's worth.
