One thing I play up in Deadlands is the tragedies of the human condition. In
the end, we all die. And at some point, death, well, is death. Send what
ever you want  at the posse.

Take your most heroic character... And last scene, have Stone shoot him in
the head. Stone is cold, unforgiving bastard whom has not a single damn
qualm about hat-outta-hand kill'n, and if he's your bravest character, he's
due.

The Weird West is a place for heroes - dead ones. This shouldn't be
role-played out - it just happens.

Follow this up with a well  RP-ed funeral scene.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, we return to the earth. He came, he fought
the evils of this world, and when he triumphed, evil took one last parting
shot. Damn the soul who cost <heroes name> his life in his own defeat - damn
him - let his existence be hell on earth."

Which it will be, if the HoE continuum happens...
