Looks like the Marshal of that game FAILED!  Get  A Rope!

Seriously, though, the Marshal should have been watching the players 
better, and spoon-fed them some of the clues to keep them interested in 
finishing as heros instead of servants of the Reckoners. Burning a city, or 
letting a major servant of evil do it without even trying to stop it should 
cost each and every one of the characters 1D4 in Corruption Points.  I know 
normal people don't have that issue... these yahoos should!  After all, you 
can trade... make that must trade... 1 level of Faith for each point of 
Corruption to buy it off.  Maybe a Grit loss would work as well.
