The unarmed damage rules changed from 1st edition to 2nd edition of
Classic Deadlands. 1st ed caused wind equal to the STR check. 2nd ed
changed to the contested STR vs VIGOR. Which you use is up to your
Marshal. In my game we use the opposed roll, and you take 1 wound to
the guts for every multiple of your size you take in wind. The bruises
eventually add up to some damage, however minor. (and if you only hit
the guy in the head, we did apply the wounds to the head rather than the
guts) So if you've got 16 wind and are average size (6), the beating it
takes to knock you out will result in 2 wounds (3 if they hit you _real_
good -- 18 wind).
