You're more likely to find a descendant of John Wesley Hardin. He actually
went to jail for his crimes, learned law, and became a lawyer when he was
released. He got married and had "youngun's." I understand people in Texas
are quite proud of being able to trace their lineage back to him. Of
course, later he had an affair with a client's wife and ended up getting
shot. I find it rather ironic that one of the West's greatest outlaws got
killed for being a "typical" lawyer.
Also to those who mentioned "The Quick and the Dead," John Wesley did a
similar trick to what Ace Hanlon does in the movie. He would shoot a
playing card someone was holding and then sign it as a memento. He
definitely enjoyed his celebrity status.
Hmm, kind of makes me wonder what kind of relic a "John Wesley signed card"
would be?

Simple confusion. It wasn't Cody; it was Wild Bill Hickok. But no it
wasn't true. She did have a daughter that she put up for adoption, but Wild
Bill wasn't the father. The daughter or someone else (perhaps Jane herself)
made claims to that effect, but it was eventually proven to be false. The
truth is that Calamity Jane was an intriguing character who took up a lot of
"male oriented" jobs in the Old West. But she also did some "female
oriented" jobs as well. The fact is that she just wasn't that pretty (you
know the saying, "Plain Jane"). She simply made better money in the "male
oriented" jobs and had an honest talent for it. It was during a stint as a
"soiled dove" (or would that be "soiled hawk" in her case) that she got
pregnant. I don't believe the father was ever identified.
Of course, none of the facts preclude the possibility that Jane may have had
Wild Bill's child in the Deadlands world. In fact it fits in with the
blurred lines between myth and reality that are often portrayed there. That
child could lead to all sorts of interesting stories.

"You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Ghost Rock, son. Nothing else in the
world smells like that. I love the smell of ghost rock in the morning. You
know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over
I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' Yank body. The
smell, you know that sulphurous smell, the whole hill. Smelled like...
victory. Someday this war's gonna end..."
