RE: [DL] Rifle

I've mention this rifle before, but it really seems to fit the bill for what this guy wants.

The Swiss Veterrli Rifle
Caliber          10.4 mm (.407 inch)
Ammunition       self contained metalic cartridge, rim fire
Range            sights out to 1600 meteres (1 mile) on some models
Magazine         13 rounds

This was the most advanced bolt action rifle in the world from 1866 until the Mausers came out in 1880s.  It was a very good, sound rifle used by a number of countries until replaced by said mausers.

Drawbacks in Weird West.
Imported from Europe so expensive and will take a while to get after ordering.
Odd caliber from american standpoint.  Owner will need to keep a supply of ammo as it will also have to be imported.
As it is a bolt action you will not be able to ratchet off the rounds like you can with a winchester.

I would not let him have a custom, high power, lever action rifle.  The lever action is fairly complex and is held together by the side plates.  This some what delicate set up does not lend itself well to the use of large, high power cartridges.  That is why the bolt actions took over the job from the single shot weapons and not the lever action rifle.  There is usually some balance of capacity, damage and range.  You cannot have all 3 catagories at maximum.  If you have a high damage round, you will not have great range or capacity.  If you have extreme range, then damage and capacity will have to suffer.  If you want high capacity, damage and range will have to be limited.
