[DL] Why is Blastin' a Knowledge aptitude?

Title: One thing that's bugged me about Sykers is how educated they have to be

One thing that's bugged me about Sykers is how educated they have to be. They have to be highly educated because the Blastin' aptitude, which is their primary ability, falls under the Knowledge trait. Among other things, the Knowledge trait is a measure of a character's logical reasoning and education. Generally it's the forte of folks who need to be that intellectual (like Junkers, Mad Scientists and other "brain-trust" types). Most of the Syker archetypes, on the other hand, look like their school motto was, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste somebody with." The set-up just doesn't fit. Look at the X-men, for example. Sure, Jean Grey is a fairly intelligent person, but we don't see her inventing time machines ala' Reed Richards, even though her "Blastin'" abilities must be up there, to say the least.

I think I've beat about the bush long enough to define the problem and offer my suggestion. What about making Blastin' a "stand-alone" skill like Hexslingin' and Ritual? It makes sense, especially since Sykers came about from Hucksters in the first place. It fits even better when one notes that there are five "modes" of Syker powers, which neatly correspond to five mental Traits.

Just like Hexslingin', a Syker uses his levels in Blastin with a differing mental Trait depending on what power its Mode falls under. For the record, the five Modes are Telekinesis, Biokinesis, Pyrokinesis, Psionics and Sykokinesis. I figure the modes and traits would line up as follows:

Cognition to Telekinesis - More than any other Syker mode, Telekinesis relies on the physical senses. You might be able to Brain Blast in somebody's general direction, but you're not going to be to grab the jail keys with your mind if you can't see (or otherwise sense) them. Without a high Cognition, using the Telekinesis mode is, well, senseless.

Knowledge to Biokinesis - You might not need to see somebody's heart to heal it, but you'd better know how it's supposed to work before you try. The ability to manipulate biological processes fits begins with the Knowledge of how those processes function.

Mien to Pyrokinesis - A warm personality. A fiery orator. Hot-tempered. Ever notice how a lot of personality descriptions fall back onto temperature metaphors? People with a strong personality can draw other folks to them like moths to the flame. Mien is the Trait that governs how well one can project their true feelings and opinions. Figure that a Syker with a low Mien will leave their target cold in more way than one.

Smarts to Psionics - While Knowledge is a person's measure of "book-smarts", Smarts is a pretty good measure of their practical intelligence. It's also the Trait that governs your ability to manipulate (Bluff, Ridicule, etc.) your fellow human beings (and other Thing). Since Psionics is the ultimate in mental manipulation, it follows that it should come under Smarts.

Spirit to Sykokinesis - The powers in the other Syker Modes take energy from the Hunting Grounds and radically reshape it to meet specific needs. Sykokinesis, on the other hand, tends to deal with the energy much closer to its raw form as in Brain Blast. It also gets closest to the roots of Syker power with Sturm and Drang or Juice. For this reason, I figured that only those Sykers who were in touch with the Spirit of their powers would be able to uses this mode to its fullest potential.

"I am Justice. I am Fate. I am what happens to tinpot scum like yourselves when you begin to suffer from delusions of adequacy. I am the Shithammer of God swinging down from Heaven to smash you back into the wastelands that spawned you. There comes a time when fear, greed and evil must be redressed. The time is now, the place is here and God help anyone who gets in my way." - Malachi Shepherd
