Just a quick observation on a possible alternative Union nitrate source:
Maine guano. Nitrates are often derived from guano (i.e. birdpoop) This in
turn is often "found" in seabird colonies, such as found off the coast of
Maine (I don't know about the Union coastal states). I don't know if the
Maine colonies would be viable sources but, I'd thought I throw the idea
out.
