Re: [DL] Player's *not* using given knowledge...
I know exacly what you mean. I've got to take the other standpoint though.
It's all down to what works well in the game we are playing. As both a
Marshall and as a player we tend to play in very character driven plots.
Some of the best roleplaying sessions we have had happened when we got
nowhere in the main plot and just sat thee interacting with eachothers
characters. For us, part of the exprence is working out how the character we
have created reacts to any given situation. We are currently playing in a dl
game where we are all part of a military unit. As such we have been sharing
all information from the word go. In pervoius games however, our characters
start the adventure meeting for the first time. In these situations it takes
time to earn that kind of trust. We have failed entire 'quests' because one
player hid the truth (and even actively lied to cover the truth for his
profit), but I cannot fault his roleplaying. It was appropriate for that
character to do that. We all reacted to that acordingly. And we all had fun.
Lack of player trust can be a fine thing when used properly and a great tool
for the dm (and a headache).
All I'm saying is that if you like that style, find other people who like
it and go for it. There's no right way to play an rpg. If, on the other
hand, your consistantly ruining everyone elses fun then find a new group.
Cheers,
James.
