AW: [DL] Night Train

Been there. I have some real good roleplayers in my group, but there are
times when one of them makes a new character and he decides that this fellow
is going to be a loner. Fine by me, he doesn't need to befriend everybody, I
thought at first.
But, little did I understand that when a gamer says "loner" he means
sociopath.
that leads to situations like: "Why should I help that guy? He's a yankee!"
or "I don't really know him." or "Better him than me." or situations like
the ones you told about.
It's frustrating. Usually it helps to talk to the player and point out that
they are here to have fun as a group and that he spoils the fun-part by
acting like an asshole.
Of course, there's always one player left who's mad because his character
died because of the sociopath character, but after one or two sessions most
disagreements are leveled.
But I had to end a session last weekend when the posse didn't really care
for the adventure but to kill the undead and arrogant Texas Ranger. The
moment it stopped being fun for me and I didn't see any way to save the
evening, I finished it and said: Sorry guys, that's not the game I want to
play. My fault, I should have been better prepared so that you won't be at
each other's throat. I screwed it, let's try again next time.
Well, at least that made them ponder their actions. I expect them to be less
sociopathic next time we play ;-)
