Since we've started playing I've let the players know about Night Train and
how deadly it is. I let them encounter empty jerkwater towns like suggested.
This got them interested. They get to town and follow the course laid out
exactly. They did well defending the convict. Then set about the town to
explore. Then they hear that distant whistle. They head out of town to look
for it. The train arrives and they go to look at it. Then the critters jump
out! It went well except I couldn't roll well enough to do much damage. The
posse can't figure out how to stop them. Sure they put a few down by pure
luck but didn't figure it out. Then critters head back to the train with
their booty. So the mad scientist figures he'll throw dynamite into the mix
to stop them. Doesn't care they have the town folks. Meanwhile a huckster
boards the train by himself and attacks them. Even after he saw how hard it
was to stop them. So I ask the two gun fighters what they are going to do.
"We can't stop them, so we're leaving." As they watch the rest of the posse
jump the train they take off away from the train. I have them see the Doc
board with a dozen critters chasing him. "Not much we can do for him." As
they mount their horses. Well after the huckster dies quick the player gets
mad and leaves. One player manages to unhook the freight car and jump off.
Meanwhile the rest of the town folks come around and ask what can they do to
help. Nothing replies the posse. They burn the freight car with a few folks
still inside and a posse member then load up their horses and take off.
Overall the posse was upset that they couldn't hurt the monsters and that is
was a waste of their time to play. Teamwork went out the window. I know the
game is to be enjoyable, but I didn't know they would act this way. The mad
scientist realized what they were fighting, saw how to kill them, but didn't
say anything! Once the adventure was done did he finally comment on what
they should of done. My posse is pretty smart but totally fell apart on this
one. The gunslingers were the worst and felt that since they couldn't be
hurt by bullets it wasn't worth their time. Hopefully they get it together
before the Devil's Tower trilogy. Any comments?
