Well, you are both right and wrong Jeff.
You are limited in shots with the revoling pistol. That is why the pistol was fired with the left hand and the sword was used with the right.
However by the civil war reloading was fairly quick. With combustable cartridges and inline cappers a cap and ball could be reloaded in about a minute.
