[DL] water and ammunition

greetings from germany, guys and gals!
a simple question:
what happens if a bullet gets wet; or let's say, the character falls into a lake with his guns in his hands. how do his guns work when he comes back out of the water?

i must admit i don't know much about guns, so please be patient if this question sounds stupid.
