Points A and B above there are related - The game store is providing gaming
space - it's a business cost in their rent. If you use that space without
buying anything it's effectively a business loss for the retailer.

From an etiquette point of view - think about it as a friend that keeps
coming over to your place and drinking all of your beer (or eating your
food or . . . ), but never brings a six-pack himself. It gets old fast.

Not necessarily, look at it like a comercial. Gaming stores should have
their tables where everyone can see them. This way when a customer walks in
and sees a group of people playing our favorite game and having a blast it
will spark an interest. They'll ask about the game and pick up a copy.
Groups playing in stores must be friendly to the customers and not mind them
watching the game, maybe even give 'em an npc to play so they can see how
much they like it.

When I worked at a gaming store I offered a money back gauruntee on
Deadlands. Pick it up keep it for a week and if you don't like it bring it
back for a cash refund. The only catch was if you brought it back you had to
tell me why you didn't like it. I kept this going for a year and half, sold
close to a hundred copies and never had one person bring it back for a
refund. It's all about advertising, it's hard to get people off the street
to play a game like deadlands (who wants to play a western?), but once they
do they can't stop....
