While I didn't have too much of a problem with Billy Yank's anecdotes, as
it was just the author backing up his claims with evidence - it seems the
author went through great pains to present both sides of EVERY issue.
Sure there were racists in the Union, and there were emancipators. . . and
there those who were of low moral character and those of incredible
morality. . . good officers and bad officers. . . good doctors and bad
doctors. . . good preachers and bad preachers. . . those who liked the
cavalry and those who hated them. . . those who saw things to enjoy and
respect in the South and it's people, and those who saw nothing that they
liked. . . those who liked the Emancipation Proclamation and those who
didn't. . .
BUT when he went so far as to say there were those who hated the Army food
AND there were those who LIKED it. . . that's just taking equal time too
DERN FAR.
No soldier likes army food. It's in the enlistment contract. :)
